2020 has had no shortage of twists and turns.  As our last guests of the year are checking in for a quiet weekend on the creek, we can’t help but look back at all that this interesting year has brought.

We closed on this house on March 16, 2020. The same day, schools in the area were shutting down and people were urged to quarantine instead of travel.  There go the short term rental plans!  As the governor of SC ordered that all beaches and boat landings close down, we made the decision to proceed with some of the renovations we had planned for the house.

March, April, May and June were filled with projects:

Clearing the front and back yards, new sod in the back, crushed granite in the driveway, relocating the HVAC systems, spray foaming the duct work under the house, redoing the kitchen and the upstairs bathroom, rebuilding the dock, installing pavers under the house to increase the living space, new support beams under the back porch to correct a noticeable slope in the kitchen, carpet removal from the stairs (thank goodness the wood underneath was in great shape!)… the list goes on and on!  Luckily we had a ton of great help from family and friends.

In July and August, we started welcoming guests.  Mostly family and friends who helped us wrap all of the projects up. In September we were ready to list Cypress Sunrise on AirBNB and VRBO.  We have had a tremendous off-season with wonderful guests who really saw the beauty in our tucked-away location.

We can’t wait to see what 2021 brings!  Hopefully lots of guests will be able to enjoy our little retreat and we will be able to continue with the renovation projects!
